Prof. Ansell was provided with a Young Investigator Award from the Army Research Office. The Aerodynamics and Unsteady Flows Research Group will be conducting research related to the development of a multivariate, multi-dimensional approach for Empirical Mode Decomposition. This adaptive signal analysis technique will then be used to understand the complex fluid dynamic interactions that occur in laminar-turbulent boundary layer transition.

Prof. Ansell and the Aerodynamics and Unsteady Flows Research Group will be participating in new research on slotted airfoil technology as part of a NASA University Leadership Initiative. The multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional research team is being led by the University of Tennessee. This $10M research program seeks to introduce disruptive advancements in aerodynamic efficiency of future commercial transport aircraft.

The Aerodynamics and Unsteady Flows Research Group welcomes Aaron Perry!
Prof. Ansell was selected for a Young Investigator Award by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. The Aerodynamics and Unsteady Flows Research Group will be conducting research related to dynamic stall, which is exhibited by airfoils in unsteady motion. This research study will involve a detailed investigation of unsteady content in the dynamic stall flowfield, providing an understanding of the formation of the dynamic stall vortex and revealing opportunities for dynamic stall control.
Prof. Ansell and the Aerodynamics and Unsteady Flows Research Group was awarded a NASA LEARN Phase I research program in collaboration with Steve D'Urso, Coordinator/Lecturer of Systems Engineering in AE at Illinois, as well as Rolling Hills Research Corporation. This research investigation entails an in-depth investigation into a novel propulsive wing concept with future application to transonic aerodynamic airfoil/wing design.
